Join us as 3 experts from our community share their take on: Filipino Immigration, Filipino History, and Leadership & Management.

Each of our speakers brings a wealth of knowledge and experience, and we're excited to share their perspectives with you.

Panelists:

Dr. Maryam Beltran, MD Shapland is a board-certified Emergency Physician employed at Securian Financial Group as the Associate Medical Director. She has a Postgraduate Certificate in Global Health from the Humanitarian and Conflict Response Institute of the University of Manchester, England. She currently serves on the board of the Minnesota Peacebuilding Leadership Institute and is among the Admissions Committee for the U of M Medical School.  Maryam is co-founder and President of the activist group Filipinos for Immigrant Rights in MN (FIRM). Most importantly, she is married to James Shapland, and they have two wonderful children, Isabella and Antonio.

Jen Teves is a principal researcher at Veritas Technologies, LLC in Roseville, MN. Her job is to make technology more usable, satisfying, and safe for its users. She moved to Minnesota in 2015 with her husband, Armando, and their dog, Blue. Prior to joining Veritas, she was a research scientist at Honeywell. Born and raised in the Philippines, Jen came to the USA for graduate education. Jen has earned her Master of Arts and Doctorate degrees in Human Factors Psychology from Wichita State University in Kansas where she was involved in research in unmanned aerial vehicles (i.e. drones), driving assisting systems, and healthcare.

Allen Malicsi is a graduate of Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota where he received a Masters of Arts Degree in Organizational Leadership. Allen has been a Learning and Development Consultant in the Twin Cities for the past 17 years. He specializes in Leadership Development, Diversity and Inclusion, and Organizational Strategic Development. He has worked with several non-profit, educational, and corporate institutions in the development of various learning initiatives and corporate leadership programs. Allen has served as an Academic Advisor for undergraduate Asian students at the U of MN where he designed and implemented multicultural leadership programs for various colleges within the University.
